The United Kingdom will deploy 100 election observers to Ghana for the 2020 elections, British High Commissioner to Ghana, Iain Walker, has revealed.

“We will be working with our Australian colleagues, Canadian colleagues, colleagues from the European Union, the electoral commission. I think we have about 100 people observing the elections.” Mr Walkers said in an interview on TV3.

When asked about his assessment of Ghana’s electoral systems, he said “I think that mostly every country is different. When I compare Ghana to the UK there are certain seats, certain areas who will always vote for particular group of people.

“It’s about encouraging the votes. In other areas they may be different. They vote based on issues or based no intentions giving to them by candidates.”

The Electoral Commission has said that it was 90 percent ready for the December 7, elections

However, the Chairperson of the EC Mrs Jean Mensa noted that it was impossible for the commission to rig elections in favour of any of any party.

She dismissed claims that she intends to rig the presidential election for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"To the question of being in bed with the government, I'm sure I would have two children by now, because its been two years... But I think transparency, transparency, transparency and that is why we tried our best to open up everything and therefore even if the President was your uncle, or your father, there is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do," Mrs Mensa said.

"And for your attention, since our appointment as the chair and deputies, or maybe I should speak for myself, I have met the President [Akufo-Addo] on two occasions only and those have been official and have been attended by all the commission members, two occasions only."
