Election 2020: Over 109,000 persons to take part in special voting today

A total of 109,577 voters from 12 institutions in the country are expected to cast their ballots today, Tuesday, December 1, 2020, ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

These are people with special election day assignments.

Per reports, the special voting exercise would take place at 311 Electoral Commission (EC) designated voting centres located in all the 275 constituencies.

The exercise will start from 7;00 am and close at 5;00 Pm.

The prospective early voters are personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau, National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department.

The rest are personnel of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service and National Media Commission.

The Greater Accra Region has 54 centres, the highest, followed by Ashanti Region, 48, Eastern Region, 34, Central Region 26, Volta Region 21.

The Rest are Western Region, 19, Northern Region, 18, Upper East Region, 16, Bono Region, 13, Bono East Region 13, Upper West Region 12, Western North Region, nine, Oti Region, eight, Ahafo Region, seven, Savannah Region, seven, and North East Region, six.

Yesterday, the Electoral Commission (EC)) announced that a total of 17,027,641 eligible voters are on the final voters register for the December 7 general elections.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Final Voters Register has a total of seventeen million and twenty-seven thousand, six hundred and forty-one (17,027,641) registrants who are eligible to vote come December 7th, 2020,” she said as quoted by thedailyguidenetwork.

According to her, “Of the total number of registered voters, females constitute eight million, eight hundred and ten thousand, two hundred and eighty-three (8,810,283) representing 51.74% of the total Register while males amounted to eight million, two hundred and seventeen thousand, three hundred and fifty-eight (8,217,358), representing 48.26% of the total Register.”

She noted that Greater Accra has the highest number of registrants.

The region with the lowest number of registrants is North East Region, she said.
