EC Releases Safety Protocols for Commencement of New Register Compilation

Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has released certain guidelines to ensure adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols, as the Commission gears up for its new voter’s registration exercise.

The EC said the measures being put in place are to avoid the risk of further community spread of the coronavirus disease when the exercise begins.

The EC has stuck to its plans to overhaul the Voter Management System as the country gears towards the election period, despite continuous criticism from various sections of the public.

Critics, mostly from the opposition National Democratic Congress, have said the EC's plans are unfeasible considering the little time left for the general elections to take place.

The pressure on the EC to shelve its plans intensified, following the coronavirus outbreak in the country, which has forced the government to place a ban on public gatherings.

Notable among safety protocols released by the EC in preparation for its voters' registration exercise are; compulsory wearing of face masks, temperature checks and adherence to social distancing measures.
