Many road networks in the Eastern Region linking the regional capital, other Municipalities and District Assemblies have turned into death traps over continued rainstorms for the past week in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The floodwaters also submerged many Towns and homes, destroying properties such as vehicles and electrical gadgets. A casualty was recorded on Thursday but the body is yet to be found.

Some of the most affected communities are Akwatiakwaso, Tutu, Kokoomu, Kwamoso and  Nyamekrom, all in the Akuapem North Municipal and New Juabeng South Municipality, where coconut trees were then trunks to be used to reconstruct the bridges.

Due to the situation, cars could not cross some of the roads, hence many residents including workers and school children leaving Nyamekrom and Kokoomu became stranded after school on Friday.

The floodwaters also submerged many towns as well as homes, destroying properties such as vehicles, roads and electrical gadgets. No casualty was recorded.

A priest told this reporter, at Kokoomu, that the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia cut sod on October 27, 2020, for the construction of  10.1-kilometres Koforidua-Nyamekrom-Supiriso Road in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

He added that the shoddy works by the contractor has caused massive damages that need renovations right away.

Opanin Kwasi Agyei, a resident opined, the contractor after grading and constructing culverts on a section of the road abandoned the site and has since not returned, leaving the road to deteriorate.

Some residents believe, that if bridges are reconstructed and widened, most of the river dredged, the flood situation will have been mitigated.

Others also think that the government is dragging its feet's in addressing deplorable roads in most parts of eastern Ghana and emphasizing on bad road networks that link Nkurakan and Koforidua
