E-Levy voting turns chaotic in parliament

Majority and Minority clash over First deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu's decision to switch position.

The Majority and Minority in the parliament of Ghana actually fought in parliament yesterday, during the E-levy voting in parliament.

The Minority decided to stop the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, who was presiding over the House, from leaving his seat and participating in the voting process.

This irritated the Majority MP, who met them at the Speaker’s table to challenge the NDC MPs.

The fight started when the MPs were doing a headcount vote to decide whether the E-levy bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency.

Joseph Osei Owusu decided to switch positions with the second deputy speaker who had already voted. This is what caused the minority MPs to move to the speaker's table, the majority also joined at the table and they begun to fight with some falling to the ground.
