E-LEVY To Be Withrawn From Paliament  By Finance Minister

The deputy majority leader Honorable Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin has disclosed to members of parliament that, due to the public engagement by the government on the electronic transfer levy, the finance minister is expected to withdraw the current bill before parliament and reintroduce same. 

Presenting the business to be transacted by parliament in the ensuing week ending Friday, February 2022, he said, upon consultation with Leadership and other stakeholders continue to engage on some concerns relating to provisions of the Bill. 

According to Afenyo Markins, Members are reliably informed about efforts by the Honorable Minister for Finance to undertake sensitization tours in certain parts of the country to educate the citizenry on the need for the passing of the Bill for the benefit of the economy. 

He told members that, the Honorable. Minister for Finance has therefore given indication after his nationwide engagement with the citizenry on the Bill, of the likelihood of the withdrawal of the Bill and reintroduction of same on Friday, 11 February 2022 barring any unforeseen circumstances. In the event that, he is unlikely to withdraw and reintroduce the Bill on Friday, 11 February 2022 he may do so on Tuesday, 15‘ February 2022.

Mr. Afenyo further elucidated that, after the withdrawal and reintroduction of the Bill, the Business Committee would, program the Bill for consideration during the course of the Fourth Week of this Meeting and Honorable. Members are, therefore, encouraged to participate fully in the consideration of the Bill for the passing of a good piece of legislation for the benefit of all.
