Dunkwa On Offin records rising teenage pregnancy cases

Dunkwa Municipal Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service in the Upper and Denkayira East Municipality of the Central Region has recorded a rising figures in teenage pregnancy for 2021.

Speaking in an interview with Central Regional Soireenews Correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, the Municipal Director of Health in Upper Denkyira East, Dr Daniel Acorlor said, the statistics gathered indicate that from January to June  this year, a total of 221 pregnancies have been recorded in the Municipality and out of 221,  40 were between the ages of 10 -14  and 181 were between 15-19 years. Some farmers, Galamsay operators, Health Officials and others were responsible for the pregnancies.

He then cautioned pregnant women to avoid the use of unapproved herbal medicine.

 Meanwhile, Nana Yaa Konadu Oforikrom Obaahemaa said, parents should ensure they provided the needs of their children, so that they will not be lured by other men into having sexual intercourse with them for financial favours.

She explained that adolescents, especially girls, encounter many challenges during the adolescent stage, and they needed to be given special attention.
