The District Manager, Mr Maxwell Oteng Agyekum of the Dunkwa District Forestry Commission in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region, has said 50,000 trees will be planted across the District effective in June 2021.

He said the initiative formed part of the Green Ghana Programme, which targeted 5,000,000 trees to be planted all over the country.

He told Central Regional Soireenews correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful when the commission engaged stakeholder meeting of the celebration of 2021 Green Ghana day.

The 50,000 seedlings including Cedrela, Cassia, Vitsia Palm, Coconut, Oranges, Oframo, Emire, Mahogany, Teak and others would be distributed to Municipal and District Assemblies, Schools, Traditional authorities, Non-Governmental Organisations(NGOs) among others.

He further said this is to make the exercise successful and ensure that every part of the District is covered.

He finally urged all to endeavour to take part in the activity when it finally gets started.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira East, Honourable Isaac Awuah said, Trees are a unique creation of Allah that played an important role in the existence of mankind and must therefore be properly taken care of.

He also said, Tree is an integral part of the ecosystem and human and other organisms depend on them to survival,

He finally called for the protection of the country's vegetation cover against destruction.

Meanwhile, Nana Kwame Kumah III Denkyira Maasehene Mbradan who spoke on behalf of the Denkyira Traditional Council called for the active participation of all in the Green Ghana Programme to ensure its success.

Nana emphasized the importance of tree in providing mankind with oxygen, food, and beautifying the environment and serving as windbreaks.
