Justice Tanko Muhammad, the highest-ranking jurist in Nigeria, has left his position.

According to numerous local sources, Mr. Muhammad, Nigeria's Chief Justice, resigned due to ill health.

Other Supreme Court judges have accused him of corruption, nepotism, and disregard for the welfare of his staff, leading to his departure.

The unprecedented public spat was "equivalent to dancing nude in the market square," he said, denying the accusations, adding that "judges in all climates are to be seen and not heard."

In 2006, Mr. Muhammad was appointed as a justice of the supreme court.
