The use of social media during business hours is banned at the Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi.
The hospital claims that this action was taken in an effort to counter the increasing trend of nurses spending more time on TikTok and other websites.
The KATH management had seen how many patients were being abandoned while most of the nurses were absorbed on their phones.
According to Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the CEO of the hospital, the lives of patients who receive care at the facility, which serves as a referral hospital, cannot be jeopardized.
He claimed that in order to prevent staff from potentially losing focus on patient treatment while using such platforms, the hospital's "[IT] system has been blocked to YouTube and other social media platforms."
The hospital's CEO spoke to department and division heads at the end-of-year performance evaluation conference in Kumasi.
Recall that the tertiary Komfo Anokye Hospital is situated in Kumasi, the metropolis of the Ashanti Region in Ghana.
