Driver's mate jailed 10 years for stealing Infinix Hot 10i, GHS601.00

There was wailing at the Ashaiman Circuit Court when a driver's mate who attacked and robbed a lady with weapon was sentenced to 10 years in prison in hadd labour.

A 20-year-old driver's mate has been jailed for 10 years for stealing Infinix Hot 10i mobile phone valued at GHS870.00 and a cash sum of GHS601.00 Enoch Ofori was found guilty, convicted and sentenced to 10 years in hard labour two counts of conspiracy to commit crime; namely robbery contrary to section 23(1) and section 149 of the criminal offenses Act 1960(Act 29).

Additionally, he was charged on the offense of robbery: Contrary to section 149 of the criminal offenses Act 1960 (Act 29).

The Circuit Court in Ashaiman within the Greater Accra Region presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga sentenced Enoch Ofori to a jail term of 10 years on his own plea of guilt.

Prosecuting: Chief Inspector Samuel Aperweh presenting the brief fact of the case said the complainant, Gloria Asantewaa Kwabi age 35 and a trader who lives at Spintex within the jurisdiction of the court while the accused person, Enoch Ofori, a driver's mate who lives at Washington, a suburb of Ashaiman.

The prosecutor recointed that on the 28th December, 2022 at about 15:30 hours, the complainant went to her husband Daniel Kasereko at Ashaiman Market.

The husband then picked her on his motor bike with registration number M-13-AS3187 as a pillion rider for home.

Opon getting to a place called Janelex School at Gbetsile, where they saw the accused person also riding an unregistered black Royal motor bike with his accomplice as a pillion rider whom the accused person gave his name as Amankwa.

The accomplice pushed the complainant and she fell down from the motor bike. In the process, the prosecutor said the accomplice managed to overpower the complainant and snatched her Infinix Hot 10i mobile phone valued at GHS870.00 and cash sum of GHS 601.00 which was kept at the back cover of the phone, and sped off.

The husband of the complainant gave them a hot chase and they abandoned the motor bike and took to their heels.

But with the help of other people, the accused person was arrested and brought together with the motor bike to the police station at Zenu, Atadeka whilst his accomplice managed to escape with the phone and the sum of money.

The said motor bike was thereafter impounded at the police station. The accused person admitted the offense in his investigation cautioned statement and also gave the name of the accomplice as Amankwa.

Enoch Ofori was charged to appear before this honourable court whilst efforts were underway to get his accomplice arrested.
