Dr Duffuor is more than qualified to lead the Party ---NDC Greater Accra Executives

Members of the Greater Accra Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have extolled the sterling qualities of the former Governor of Bank of Ghana and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, describing him as a unifier and worthy presidential candidate of good track record, in similar fashion as was done by the Chairman of the NDC Elections Committee, Mr Kakra Essamuah, during the recent picking of nomination forms for Dr Kwabena  Duffuor, by grassroots and women supporters.

Commenting on the achievements of Dr. Duffuor, Members of the Executive, reiterated, that he has what it takes to solve the prevailing economic challenges facing Ghanaians should he be given the nod as the NDC Presidential Candidate for the 2024 Presidential elections.

The Greater Accra Regional Executives, having had this close encounter with Dr Duffuor, pledged to give their total support for his planned regional tour, having revealed, that Dr Duffuor is the first ever NDC Presidential Candidate in the Party's history, who has personally come down to the Greater Accra Regional Executives, to formally inform and request permission in unity to tour the region.

Whilst expressing their delight for his decision to contest and to engage them and the grassroots, Members of the executive urged Dr Duffuor and his team to engage in an issues-based campaign and not to engage in negative campaigning, which renders post-electoral  unification more difficult, for the pending task ahead of kicking the failed NPP out of power in 2024.

During the meeting, Dr Duffuor expressed pleasant surprise and stated how honored and humbled he is by the massive grassroots support he is receiving, includng the powerful  encouragement, messages and blessings from the  Greater Accra NDC as he and his team begin their tour of the Greater Accra Region.

“It was an honour, but I was humbled. I’ve accepted to contest, that’s why we are here today. Colleagues, ours is a great party; it’s a very big party, bigger than the other groups,” he said.

Dr Duffuor pledged to continue to work with and empower the grassroots of the Party, resuscitate the NDC Heroes Fund, institute a Pension Scheme for Party Workers and expand the ongoing Ahutor Programme for NDC Party Grassroots, across all the 276 Constituencies of the country.

The meeting with the regional executives comes closely on the heels of the successful picking of nomination forms for the contest to be elected to the vacant position of Flagbearer of the Party for the 2024 Presidential elections.

Dr. Duffuor, a former Minister of Finance, and a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has expressed optimism about his chances of winning the flagbearer race of the party based on engagement with the grassroots of the Party and his style of leading by example from the front, to face the current challenges of the Party and Nation.

Having indicated in several interactions that he is the best man to bring Ghana out of its current economic challenges, he re-emphasized that he once stabilized the economy in similar circumstances and that he has what it takes and the track record to show he can do it again. "It can be done again" he confidently restated.

In his response, the Greater Accra regional chairman of the NDC, Nii Ashie Moore, expressed hope that whoever gets to lead the party will deliver victory for the NDC in 2024.

He was also excited that the candidate had decided to begin his tour in the Greater Accra Region, adding that a win in the region is a deciding one.

“You have distinguished yourself to the max. We are one family, this is an internal election. Our target is the NPP. Our target is to maximise the votes of Greater Accra, because we see Greater Accra Region as a decisive region when it comes to politics. When we win Greater Accra, we know we will form the next government".

“I pray to the Almighty God that all of you who have put up yourselves there to lead our political party, to lead our country, at the end of the day, one of you will be made a flagbearer of our party” he said.

While wishing Dr. Duffuor well, he prayed that at the end of the contest, all the factions in the party will work towards unity.

Dr. Duffuor's tour of the Greater Accra Region will be the first in a series across the country.
