DR Congo rebels 'not concerned' by ceasefire deal

The M23 rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have stated that they are "not concerned" about the planned Friday night truce.

They requested direct communication with the DR Congo authorities.

According to Lawrence Kanyuka, a spokesman for the rebels, they were not a part of the agreement because they sent no officials to the mini-summit held on Wednesday in Luanda, the capital of Angola.

If the rebels did not leave the area, an East African regional force would strike their positions, according to the signatories, who were from Rwanda, the DR Congo, Angola, and Burundi.

Kinshasa has rejected dialogue with the M23 and referred to them as terrorists.
