According to the DCE, the hospital authorities have confirmed to him that the rescued baby is safe and healthy who needs nutrient-rich baby foods to eat and survive.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Dormaa West District Assembly in the Bono Region, Mr. Francis K. Oppong called on the various philanthropists, corporate institutions, and Individual Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) to come to the aid of a new-born baby boy who was dumped in a public toilet at Nkrankwanta and rescued, thereby rushing to the female ward of the Dormaa West District Hospital.

According to the DCE, the hospital authorities have confirmed to him that the rescued baby is safe and healthy and needs nutrient-rich baby foods to eat and survive.

In this regard, the DCE assured the Assembly's commitment and readiness to take full financial responsibility for the baby and has therefore called on various philanthropists, corporate institutions, and Individual Non-governmental Organisations to come to the aid of the baby.

Mr. Oppong made the call when he led a team of the top shots of Assembly on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, to visit an abandoned newborn baby boy at the female ward of the Dormaa West District Hospital.
The DCE was accompanied by the Dormaa West District Director of Ghana Health Service, Mr. Okyere Kwaku, Hospital Matron, Mrs. Janet Antwiwaa, and Assembly Memberfor Asuopri Electoral Area, Mr. Yusif Issah

Mr.Oppong stated that he decided to visit the facility to have first-hand information of the incident which was reported to him that a newborn child has been rescued after it was flushed down a drain at Nkrankwanta.
The child was discovered by a resident who was alarmed by the cries of the baby while attending to nature’s call.
She told journalists that she trailed the sound of the baby to one of the cubicles where she discovered blood clots all over the floor and water closet. 
According to her, she raised an alarm which caught the attention of some residents with their help, the water closet was destroyed in other to rescue the baby

The Assemblyman for the Asuopri electoral area, Yusif Issah rushed the child to the Dormaa West District Hospital at Nkrankwanta, where it is currently being treated.

Earlier, the DCE noted that when he was informed about the incident in the evening of Monday, March 7, 2022, he tasked the Dormaa West District Police Commander to visit the baby in the hospitalon Tuesday, March 8, 2022, to find out the information about the baby.
The DCE added that he also tasked the senior police officer to officially inform the Social Welfare Directorate of the area so they go to the hospital to follow up on the issue.
Following this development, according to the DCE, he has officially reported the incident to the Bono Regional Minister and other key government authorities in the Region.

He assured that he would laisse with the Assembly and the Dormaa West District Security Committee (DISEC) on how best they can commit themselves to seeking the welfare of the abandoned baby.
The Assemblyman for the Asuopri electoral area, Yusif Issah, indicated this is the second of such incidents to be recorded in less than a year.
But the DCE confirmed that a report has been made to the police and an investigation is underway to identify the mother of the abandoned body.
