Chief of Donkro-Nkwanta in the Nkoranza South Municipal of the Bono East Region, Nana Owusu Akyeaw Brempon II has commended the Bono East Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan for a swift intervention to avert intended illegal mining (galamsey) in the area.

The Minister received series of distress calls and read the same on social media platforms about illegal mining operations yet to be carried out at Donkronkwanta which could generate life-threatening issues between the galamseyers and residents, whose farmlands were ceased for the operations. The Minister on March 31, 2021, upon receiving the information visited the place together with some security officers to find a solution to the situation.

Addressing the minister and his entourage at the palace, Nana Owusu Akyeaw Brempon II indicated that he would not sit aloof for strangers to destroy their lands since posterity will judge him.

According to the chief, the youth of the community have besieged him about the intended illegal mining hence the need to stop the people involved from the operation. He thus lauded the minister for heeding to his call and intervening in the said matter.

The Bono East Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan entreated the chief to be calm as he promised to meet with the people involved in the acquisition of land to ensure the matter is put to rest.
