Credible reports have implicated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Robert Lamptey, in illegal mining activities (galamsey) at Ayensuanor in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.
Along with Michael Asare and Zekeriye Konugoglu, Mr Lamptey is accused of operating Black ARK Company Limited, which has been linked to severe environmental destruction.
Leaked documents reveal the trio owns 15 mining sites near River Ayensu, where their gold mining activities have caused extensive damage to the forest and polluted water bodies, including the river.
These operations allegedly violate the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703).
Local farmers, alarmed by the pollution, claimed the contaminated water has severely impacted their livelihoods, forcing them to rely on sachet water when going to their farms.
The farmers warned that the environmental damage threatens aquatic ecosystems and poses health risks through water-borne diseases.
Videos intercepted show residents voicing their frustrations over the illegal mining activities, which have left the forest and water sources in a dire state.
“I buy pure water to cook in my farm which wasn’t so,” One farmer, Agya told our source.
