The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has exhorted residents of Obuasi to desist from undertaking activities that are likely to destroy roads in the area.

At the commissioning of a 1.3-kilometer road constructed by Anglogold Ashanti (AGA), pans from Kunka Junction to Nyameso in Obuasi yesterday.

The Regional Minister said, "after taking a stroll on the road, I'm convinced that this road can last for a long time if it is well taken care of."

"I'm therefore advising residents to desist from activities that are likely to destroy the road," he said.

The managing director of A.G.A Mr. Eric Asubonteng said, the company right from the onset decided to help its host communities with amenities, and the construction of the road is part of a measure to complement the government efforts in rehabilitating deplorable roads in Ghana in what is called “year of roads.”

"From the onset of negotiations to bring back the company, we decided to help our host community".

"The construction of the road is being a way of mitigating the needs of the people while complimenting the government's 'Year of Road' project," he said.

On the part of Nananom, the Adansihemaa, Nana Amoanimaa Dede II expressed gratitude to the President and AGA for their support in the development of Obuasi.

The project cost Anglogold Ashanti 1 million dollars and began in July 2020.
