It has earlier been reported that former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, had passed on after a brief illness.

Ghanaians celebrities have had to mourn a lot of their heroes in the year 2020 and Sir John's death is no different.

Controversial TV personality, Deloris Frimpong-Manso, popularly known as Delay was quick to throw herself to the ground in agony over the loss of her dear friend who died after testing positive for the coronavirus.

“? I’m sad ? I can’t sleep. we spoke for more than 12 minutes, so what’s really happening…I can’t handle this… Sir John called me last week, we spoke about our old interview that had resurfaced on the net. We laughed about it and I promised to visit as soon as I could. Now, this…. what a year" she wrote.

Other celebrities took to their social media pages to offer their condolences to his family. One of the prominent members is the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who took to his social media platforms to mourn the painful death of his very good friend.

He also admitted to speaking with Sir John before his death. He wrote:

"I have learned with sadness the passing of Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie aka Sir John, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party and Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission. I spoke with Sir John only yesterday but little did I know that was our last conversation."

 

 

"Sir John was a good man who truly paid his dues to the Party and Ghana. I will miss him."

"My heartfelt condolences to his family."
"Rest in peace, my good friend."

Sir John was the NPP General secretary from 2010 to 2014. He also served as head of legal service for the Ghana National Petroleum Commission and later the acting deputy director for the same GNPC.
