Deep Cracks In Awutu Senya East NDC After The Delegates Had Failed To Elect Prefer Parliamentary Candidate
There are clear indications that a number of youth groups including floating voters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region, may not be voting for the NDC parliamentary candidate-elect, Mrs.Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor who doubles as a private legal practitioner in the 2024 general due to the number of reasons which they had made public to substantiate their claims.
Even though some of the constituency and Central Regional Executives of the party are averse to the stance of the thousands of supporters and members of the party, the aggrieved youth groups are promising an overwhelming win for the former President John Draamani Mahama for the 20204 polls, but said same cannot be promised for Mrs. Okunor as their parliamentary candidate.
According to them, they believed strongly that Mrs. Okunor didn't have capacity and ability to wrestle the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) which was being targeted by them.
They argued that the delegates did not vote
for a winnable candidate in the person of Mrs. Dina Tetteh who is a unifier and the only person when she emerges as the next parliamentary candidate for the party she can unite the party for battle 2024 come December 7.
They indicated that the delegates made an big mistake for not voting for Mrs.Tetteh because she has demonstrated to be a sole candidate when given the nod, he would bring every faction together with ease for victory 2024, because she has worked with all the past ministers, party chairmen and all other stakeholders within the constituency.
They stated that Mrs. Tetteh, had contested the assembly member thrice and won two consecutive times, worked with the party at the constituency for years and understood the grassroots and the dynamics of the constituency.
They said, over the years she had contributed to the party and individual lives in the constituency hence believe she has the capacity and ability to win the seat.
The youth groups who are grassroot members of the party in the area vowed to vote 'skirt and blouse' because Mrs.Okunor is not their preferred choice for the NDC parliamentary candidate in the Awutu Senya East.
Speaking to these youth groups on their reasons for not supporting election of Mrs.Okunor as their parliamentary candidate for the 2024 polls, they maintained that the NDC especially in the 2020 elections failed to elect the preferred candidate for the constituency leading to the defeat.
They said the NDC was highly optimistic of wining the seat 2020 general election but lost due to lack of understanding of the grassroots and dynamics of the constituency by the same candidate who was Mrs.Okunor.
According to them, they were peeved that Mrs.Okunor was supported by the Central Regional executives of the NDC to win the primaries because the the party needs a candidate who is humble, appeals to floating voters and loved by majority of party members.
They were of the view that the party lost in the previous election because some party members were peeved who felt the candidate was imposed on the constituency,“but the Central Regional executives exhibited same behaviour to support for the election of unknown grassroot person to lead the party in the next elections.
They stated that there are documentary proofs that Mrs.Okunor who served as their previous parliamentary candidate for 2020 general election has performed poorly because of her unsuitable leadership style.
According to the groups, some common signs of bad leadership of Mrs.Okunor include passive aggressive communication, failure to own up to mistakes, not listening to concerns, or creating an intimidating work environment.
They attributed the caused of the defeat of their cherished candidate,Mrs. Dina Tetteh to some party executives both in Awutu Senya East Constituency and Central Region behind this unbelievable outcome and that they will ensure that they vote skirt and blouse' in the 2024 general elections.
According to the youth groups of the NDC, a huge amount of money was shared on Saturday May 13, 2023 to convince most of the delegates to vote for the wrong person and because of that they will never accept the outcome of the primaries.
They pointed out that some top gurus of the NDC from the Central Regional level came to bribe delegates with huge money to vote in favour of the wrong person to win the parliamentary primaries.
"We know for sure that Mrs. Dina Tetteh is the highly tipped choice of the NDC Awutu Senya East Constituency executives including many youth groups and stakesholders to win the parliamentary slot to lead the NDC in the 2024 general elections since she has what it takes to clinch the seat from the NPP," the grassroots members are charged.
They registered their displeasure against the change of the venue marked for the primaries, which they disclosed was engineered by the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Richard Asiedu to manipulate the process in Awutu Senya East which has got in favour in the former parliamentary candidate, Mrs. Okunor, winning the just ended upcoming primaries.
According to the youth, they cannot continue to support Mrs.Okunor who has snubbed them after the 2020 general elections but she only resurfaced in the constituency currently just because she wanted to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries again and this and that development is compiling them to vote “skirt and blouse.”

But when contacted by Soireenews.com to get her side of the story,Mrs.Okunor denied all the allegations levelled against her and dated his critics to provide evidence to support their claims.

"My friend [referring to this reporter] l heard you but l want you to tell them to provide evidence to proof their case. I am entering into the studio now and l would call you later," Mrs. Okunor told Soireenews.com but she never  called back again as at the time of filling this report.
