Unknown numbers of individuals perished in a Sunday night attack in Anambra state on the convoy of a Nigerian senator.

According to reports, the assailants started shooting at the caravan.

Following the incident in the Njikoka area, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is reportedly "safe and in good condition," according to his Young Progressives Party.

The party did not specify how many people were killed, only that the senator's staff and police escorts perished.

An assistant is quoted in local media as calling it an assassination attempt.

Atiku Abubakar, a presidential hopeful from the opposition, denounced the attack in a tweet.
