There has been tension between the youth and chiefs of Mempeasem in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the central region over the sale of cemetery land to a private investor.

There has been tension between the youth and chiefs of Mempeasem in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the central region over the sale of cemetery land to a private investor.

According to the disgruntled youth, they went to the cemetery for burial only for them to discover that a bulldozer machine was busily clearing parts of the cemetery lands which has been leased to the Mempeasem community since 1992.

Narrating their ordeal, the youth said, “ When we asked who gave them the power to clear the land two women standing by responded Nana Aseku-Brempong the Caretaker chief of Mempeasem-Konsontre who doubles as Benkumhene of Konsontre lands (Juaso) sold 100 plots of the land to a Nigerian-Resident at Assin Kushea"

The agitated youth numbering about 30 gathered and storm the palace of Nana Aseku Brempong to warn him to stay away from the land or incur their wrath. 

"We will chase all the chiefs into the bush if they make any attempt to sell the cemetery land. wall" the youth leader, Abdulai Salifu said.

Some of the youth also sent a stern warning to developers to stay off the cemetery lands or they will pull down every project that will be mounted on the land.

Meanwhile, Nana Aseku Brempong in an interview with the media denied the allegations, however, he admitted he only led the investor to the land under the directive of his superiors. 

The Assemblymember for Mempeasem electoral area, Mr. Abdul Rahman Ibrahim call for calm among the youths and the chiefs after drenching the fire.
