COVID-19: Nigeria's Death Toll Exceed 1,000, 321 New Cases Recorded

"Till date, 52548 cases have been confirmed, 39257 cases have been discharged and 1004 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory," NCDC reveals.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported two new deaths due to the coronavirus bringing the death toll to 1,004.

With 321 new infections, the case-count in the country has risen to 52,548, the health agency announced the figure in a late-night tweet on Monday.

The NCDC noted that the additional cases were reported from 23 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

NCDC tweeted: "On the 24th of August 2020, 321 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

"Till date, 52548 cases have been confirmed, 39257 cases have been discharged and 1004 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

"The 321 new cases are reported from 24 states- Lagos (98), FCT (34), Kaduna (30), Nasarawa (25), Benue (21), Plateau (17), Rivers (15), Adamawa (11), Ogun (11), Enugu (9), Edo ( 8 ), Delta (7), Ekiti (7), Gombe (5), Ebonyi (4), Bayelsa (3), Kano (3), Ondo (3), Cross River (2), Imo (2), Kebbi (2), Niger (2), Abia (1), Bauchi (1)."

 

 

Despite the total number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the country is near the 53,000 mark, more people have continued to recover from the disease.

Data released by the NCDC in its latest update on the outbreak revealed that additional 321 infected patients have been successfully treated and discharged from various isolation centers in the country.

The nation’s recovery figure now stands at 39,257 representing over 74.70 percent of the infections, while 12,287 cases are still active as of August 24.

However, the death toll from the disease which is now 1,004 has continued to increase, although at a slow pace.
