COVID-19: Nigeria Records 103 New Cases, Total Now 59,841

According to NCDC, 59841 cases have been confirmed, 51551 cases have been discharged and 1113 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Nigeria has recorded 103 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the nation's total infections to 59,841.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced this via its twitter handle on Thursday night, October 8.

NCDC tweeted: "On the 8th of October 2020, 103 new confirmed cases were recorded in Nigeria.

"Till date, 59841 cases have been confirmed, 51551 cases have been discharged and 1113 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 103 new cases are reported from 13 states- Lagos (39), Rivers (21), FCT (19), Oyo (6) Kaduna (4), Bauchi (3), Ogun (3), Imo (2), Kano (2), Benue (1), Edo (1), Nasarawa (1), Plateau (1)



A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Meanwhile, the NCDC has emphasised its commitment towards increasing testing capacity by ensuring the availability of laboratories.

Speaking at a media briefing of the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Thursday, Chikwe Ihekweazu, NCDC director-general, said the agency has put in a lot of efforts to bring the testing facilities closer to the people, according to The Cable. 

He said: "With 69 PCR, 22 GeneXpert and 17 private labs for COVID-19 in Nigeria, testing opportunities are now closer to the people."

“It’s now up to the public health workforce to utilise them to full potential and raise more awareness on their importance in response."
