State governors and their deputies are to take the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday March 10.

Kayode Fayemi, Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Ekiti Governor made the announcement on Thursday.

He addressed the media after the governors’ emergency virtual meeting

Fayemi confirmed that the vaccination would be done publicly.

The NGF chairman said the forum was committed to working with the federal government on a cold chain for the vaccine.

The governor urged Nigerians to take the vaccine, assuring it was safe for persons up to 18 years.

Fayemi advised them to register on the National Primary Health Care Development Agency website – nphcsaict.com.ng/publicreg.

Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, briefed governors on the 3.92m doses of the vaccine received by Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, top government officials and frontline health workers would be the first to receive the vaccine from March 6.

Recall, Nigeria took delivery of 3,924,000 doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday.
