Covid-19: Ghana’s Case Count Hits 7,616 as Bono East Confirms First Case

Ghana’s case count of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) increased by 313 to 7,616 as of May 29, 2020.

This is according to the Ghana Health Service via its official website for covid-19 updates.

 Nine more people tested negative twice for the disease, bringing the recovery count to 2,421.

The update shows that the Bono East region has become the 15th out of Ghana’s 16 regions to record a COVID-19 case.

The region accounts for one of the 313 new cases announced by the GHS.

According to the GHS the first case in Bono East is a 31-year-old commercial driver from Yeji who plies his trade from Yeji to Kumasi. Twenty-seven contacts have been identified and listed so far, including four close contacts and twenty-three casual contacts. The case is asymptomatic and being managed at the Kintampo Treatment Centre.

Breakdown of new cases

Out of the 313 new cases, 227 were recorded from the routine surveillance while 86 of the cases were confirmed among people tested through enhanced contact tracing.

The Greater Accra region still leads as the region with the most number of cases followed by the Ashanti Region.
