A resident of Abesim in the Sunyani Municipal whose name has been withheld is allegedly accusing the Environmental Health and Sanitation Analyst of the Municipality, Mr Owusu Korkor of taking an unapproved fee of Ghc 500 from him after his father died of COVID-19, as declared by health professionals.

He narrated that, he was made to contact the Environmental Health officer, Mr Owusu Korkor after the demise of his father who tested positive to make proper arrangement for the burial as part of the protocols to curtail the spread of the disease.

He exposed that Mr Korkor demanded an amount of Ghc 500 which he termed as an unapproved fee to motivate his team for the burial which he paid via mobile money. 

According to him, an extra amount of Ghc 200 was paid to the same mobile money account as motivation fee for disinfection which was to be done at the residence of the deceased, with another hundred cedis paid before the body was conveyed to the cemetery for burial.

Meanwhile, the government says it has taken charge of such services which is to be done as part of measures to fight against the disease.

He added that their results proved negative to the disease after they had gone for a test.

He also complained of the stigma they have gone through after the incident yet the Environmental Health and Sanitation Analyst for Sunyani Municipal, Mr Daniel Owusu Korkor has denied the allegation levelled against him when contacted saying there is no iota of truth in them.
