Ghanaian highlife artiste has debunked the rumors that the government paid hefty sums to artistes to perform at the COVID-19 launch, as he has claimed that they only gave him money for his transportation so as to not make it seem as if they were losing attending the launch.

He claimed that he performed at the concert for free because of the aim and objectives of the government, as it is imperative that the country as a whole comes together to fight the Coronavirus spread. Kaakyire revealed that the artistes that performed at the concert did it as an act of patriotism and there were no fees involved for their appearances.

This comes a day after the Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the musicians performed without payment. Kaakyire has somewhat corroborated this story although the rumour mongers might start to speculate just how much the "fuel" money was.

Ursula said during the coronavirus press briefing of the Ministry of Information that the artistes performed at the launch of the COVID-19 Tracker for free.

“The launch was held and I must thank the musicians who also performed for free to lift up the spirit of those of us in lockdown and educate the public through music as well,” he said.

This follows Shatta Wale's claims as he also denied being paid any sum for his services at the concert. It can only be speculated that either this is the truth, or the artistes were told not to reveal the amount they were paid.
