Reigning BMX Olympics champion Connor Fields was carried off the course on a stretcher in the semi-final shunt after a terrifying crash at Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Olympics favourite was competing in the semifinal heat in men’s racing at the Tokyo Olympics when disaster struck.

The crash occurred on the very first turn of the race in the final run of three.

The 28-year-old American was in second when the front wheel of his bike looked to catch the back of the leader.

Fields was sent crashing to the ground as two other racers fell over him and were sent tumbling.

The Las Vegas ace was fourth after his opening two heats but landed hard off a jump and slammed into the turn before worryingly laying on the track.

Medics quickly raced on to the scene to treat the stricken star.

He was then loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There was no immediate update on his condition.

Connor Fields was a 2016 Olympic gold medalist and was a huge contender to win gold again in the Far East.

He had already qualified for the finals despite the terrifying smash.

The rider made his Olympics debut back at London 2012, where he finished seventh overall.

But he will not be able to compete in the final due to the injuries he sustained.
