Cold store operators at the Kumasi Asafo market have expressed worried over the inflation of taxes on their goods.

The sellers who deal in frozen fish, frozen chicken, frozen pork, etc. proclaim the hikes of taxes on their products have compelled them to increase the prices of the products and this has resulted in low sales.

Speaking to Soiree News 24 Ashanti regional correspondent, Nana Peprah, the market women complained that the importers of the aforementioned pay high duties, and this, as a result, has forced them to inflate the prices, hence the low sales because customers are unable to buy the products in mass quantities like the previous days.

“Retailers who come for our products don’t come anymore, they also claim customers don't want to buy the meats at high costs,” the traders said.

The leader of the association, Nana Effua Ahemma speaking to this portal said the situation has strongly hit them.

She revealed that most of the frozen meat which is now at a very high cost is decomposing due to the recent frequent power outages in Kumasi City.

"See, we just come here to fold our arms and watch cars….” Nana Effua Ahemma  lamented.

The traders however have called on the Government of Ghana to reduce taxes on goods and services in order to sustain their business.

"We voted for Nana Addo and NPP due to the trusted policies laid in their manifesto. In fact, it's our wish that they do not make us regret the decision we took. We trust Nana Akuffo Addo can do something about these unprecedented hikes on duties that are affecting our sales". They said.
