The Sepaase Roman Catholic (R/C) Basic and Junior High School in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality is gradually becoming an end-user hub for illicit drugs trade and commercial sex activities, Soireenews investigations have established.

Information gathered from residents indicate that some police officers from the Abuakwa District Police Command have made a job out of extorting huge sums of money from cocaine, sex workers, crack and Indian hemp (wee) dealers who turned the Sepaase R/C Basic and Junior High School into palladium of commercial sex, sneezing of cocaine and smoking of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp (wee) and a public place of convenient.

The residents told Soireenews that the police instead of arresting and prosecuting such illicit drug peddlers in the area rather end up condoning these acts by collecting huge sums of monies as bribes.

The Soireenews findings revealed that Sepaase, a suburb of Abuakwa, is seriously plagued by all manner of social vices, such as minors in prostitution, alcoholism and armed robbery.

Soireenews search in the various ghettos and drinking spots also disclosed the sale of some deadly concoction believed to be alcoholic beverages mixed with Indian hemp.

In an exclusive interview with some of the drug peddlers who pleaded condition of anonymity, they proudly boasted thus: “We are not afraid of anybody. We have bought some policemen and big men in the area.

"After all, some police officers and big men also come here to smoke wee and sniff cocaine and so why should we be afraid,” the drug peddlers boasted.

Some of them alleged that they pay a specified amount of money in the form of “settlement fees” to police officers and big men in the area in order to evade arrest. 

Residents, who spoke to Soireenews, bitterly lamented the situation and the kind of dangers it and its attendant evils expose them, especially their children, too.

They appealed to the government to, as a matter of urgency, put in place lasting measures that would stop the trade in illicit drugs.

Visibly worried, the residents called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to order for the immediate arrest of the drug peddlers to remove them from their neighbourhood, and also institute an investigation into the alleged unprofessional conduct of officers and men of the mentioned police stations.

Meanwhile, speaking on Silver FM monitored by Soireenews, the Sepaase Unit Committee Secretary, Mr Anning Martin complained that there is no security in the school.

"Our school don't have fence walls, and also most of the walls of the classrooms were half-constructed, thereby allowing social miscreants to use them after school hours and has even increased during the COVID era.

The committee secretary said the intruders do not only smoke illegal substances but also defecate on the campus as well.

They further added that these invaders had not only desecrated the place but also robbed residents in the area even in at day time. 

According to him, apart from this criminal act, the school don't have enough classroom to accommodate the students and the lack of furniture which compelled the children to sit in pairs instead of one child to one desk before the COVID vocation.

He said, if the government and the assembly did not come to their aid, the students will have no other choice than to take instruction under a fragile shed, with worn-out roofing sheets with holes in them.

The community, one of the residents said, does not have toilet and resorts in the school compound to ease themselves. 

Meanwhile, some of the residents have complained about the danger of the school building which poses threat to the students.
