Manchester City have advanced to the final of the Carabao Cup for the fourth consecutive time after a 2-0 victory over city rivals, United.

The win means the Etihad side will play Tottenham Hotspurs in the final of the tournament dominated by Pep Guardiola’s side.

Jose Mourinho’s side recorded a 2-0 win over Brentford on Tuesday night after Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min goals sailed them through as the Portuguese manager aims at winning his first silverware since taking over the job from Mauricio Pochettino.

Man City followed suit after a goalless game in the first half when John Stones scored his first goal since November 2017 to deny Manchester United a final for the fourth time in 12 months.

Fernandinho sank Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a second strike with a volley on the edge of the box to book a ticket to Wembley.

According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer published by talkSPORTS, his side lost to one of the best teams in Europe and were not at their best level.

“Manchester City can score many great goals. You can accept that,” he said cited on talkSPORTS.

‘When you concede two simple set-plays, it’s very disappointing. Just not good enough in those moments.

“We didn’t create enough big chances. They didn’t either. We didn’t have the extra finesse we’ve had in the games lately. We weren’t good enough today.

“We played against a very good Manchester City team. They played well. When they play well you have to play very well to beat them. We were just lacking that little bit.

“We’re getting closer. This is a much better version of United than a year ago in those semis.

“It’s not psychological [losing four semi-finals]. Sometimes you meet good teams in the semis and we just didn’t have enough. We met, at the moment, probably the best team in England and we didn’t have enough today.

“We want to go to a final and that would give us an extra boost. Then you got to dust this off and then we got FA Cup and big-league games. Then suddenly Europa League is here again.”
