Manchester City considered a move for Romelu Lukaku but withdrawn due to the player’s asking price.

The former Manchester United player joined Inter Milan for a price of £75m in 2019 after failing to impress during his spell at Old Trafford.

Guardiola’s side are on the hunt for Sergio Aguero’s replacement following the Argentine’s recent injury crises which is affecting his form for the Etihad side.

The 29-year old missed four months after suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery back in June and returned for the Premier League clash against Arsenal last month but was substituted at half-time with a fresh injury concern.

The player is nearing the end of his contract which finishes after the season having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011. City are not in haste to start him after he was left on the bench in Man City’s 2-0 defeat to Spurs over the weekend.

"We want Aguero to come back," Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference.

"Today he's training again, we want him to recover a good feeling in his knee.

"This is the most important thing. One step at a time, we have many games this season and we will need him. We want to recover his best condition."

Manchester City is struggling to put games to bed in the Premier League, having suffered defeat thrice in the current campaign. The Daily Star reports that Lukaku is the ideal option for the Citizens but his price tag quenched off City’s interest.

The Belgium international scored 34 goals last term for Inter, who paid £75m for him in 2019 from Old Trafford according to the news outlet, the Serie A side are asking for over £90m from City before a move could happen.
