Nana Abredu Somuah II, the chief of the farming village of Kwahu Apradang in the Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region, has a tense relationship with his elders over the way a rape case in his community was handled while he was away.

Op. Kwame Nkrumah (Totowadwenmu, which translates to "close your mind"), 50, is accused of raping a 16-year-old class six student about a week ago.

When the 16-year-old girl's parents, Maame Pokua and Mr. Kwaku Osei aka (Dwen wo daakye), saw her science, they grilled her and she confessed to having been raped by the named suspect.

The case was sent to the chief's palace so that the necessary steps could be taken, but because Nana Abredu Somuah II, the chief, was away, Nana Osei Wiafe, one of the chief elders, stood in and resolved the rape case.

He also ordered the suspect to pay the victim and her parents a thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 2000).

After returning from his journey, Nana Somuah Abredu learned of this and immediately became very upset with his elders for the way the case had been handled.

He then requested that the police question the suspects and make the necessary arrests to serve as a warning to others.
