Chelsea has reportedly beat the transfer window deadline to land Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez on a dramatic night.

The Champions League winners made a late breakthrough in their bid for the La Rojiblancos midfielder last night when the Spanish champions re-signed their iconic striker Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann’s return, paved the way for Atletico and Chelsea to come into agreement on a one-season loan deal for Niguez, with a view to making it permanent with a £34m option at the end of this season.

It was 11.45 pm before the clubs officially announced the deal for Niguez who had been pushing to sign for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
