It has been observed by residents and other road users about the ongoing  Installations of CCTV Surveillance Cameras In Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital, by the Ministry of National Security.

Four of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras devices are being installed around Ministries, the residence of the Regional Minister which works has already commenced.

Sources indicate that some of the CCTV cameras will be installed in other important and security zones in the Regional capital.

The government of Ghana through the Ministry of National Security announced last year that some 10,000 CCTV cameras had been procured for installation nationwide to optimize security.

According to the Minister of the National Security, the video feeds will be monitored at “real-time crime centres in Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.

"The three centres will monitor all 16 regions across the country to monitor all activities on our streets".

"Surveillance cameras are one of the most ubiquitous and recognizable technologies being used globally to survey the streets by state security agencies".

According to a security expert, Camera technology is growing in sophistication: some cameras are capable of 360-degree video or infrared vision.

Some models can be equipped with real-time face recognition or license plate recognition software. Since many are also being connected directly to the Internet, the camera networks have also proven easy targets for malicious attackers.
