Kumasi Asante Kotoko will travel to Tunisia with a two goal advantage next two weeks.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated Etoile Du Sahel at the Baba Yara Stadium by 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Augustine Okrah gave the Porcupine Warriors an early lead before Emmanuel Agyemang doubled the lead in the second half.

Coach Kjetil Zachariassen opted for George Abege upfront instead of Sogne Yacouba to replace suspended Naby Keita. Jordan Opoku and Augustine Okrah were both handed their debut after their paper works were sorted out.

Asante Kotoko had the game patronized massively by fans at Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The horns were expressed whiles the Red flags painted the stadium to inspire the players. Augustine Okrah in the 3-minute opened the scores for the home side after an early foul committed by Etoile at the edge of the penalty box. He opted for the low shot directed towards the left side to beat the human wall.

The game restarted and Etoile won the first corner of the afternoon but Ben Firaz’s kick was dealt by the Kotoko defense.

Asante Kotoko kept their attack active for the second goal before the proceeding of the first half ended.

Emmanuel Gyamfi took on two defenders in the Etoile area but his hit with the outside foot was cleared over the line for a throw in. The 40-minute saw a penalty appeal by the homeside denied by the referee after Emmanuel Gyamfi was once again fouled inside the penalty.

The second half witnessed Kotoko’s second goal 10 minutes into the game. Emmanuel Agyemang beat the offside trap and sent in a rebound from Augustine Okrah’s corner. He hit the ball beyond the reach of Etoil’s goalkeeper, Bdiri Makrem to give Kotoko a two goal lead.

Kotoko will play the return leg on September 27 at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet. The last time Faouzi Benzarti lost away in a Champions League game was against Hafia FC of Guinea. They scored 7 goals to advance into the next round with Kotoko.
