Burkina Faso has named Hubert Velud as their new coach.

Hubert Velud, the former coach of Togo and Sudan, has been named the next coach of Burkina Faso for a two-year contract.

Sudan qualified for the postponed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations under the 62-year-old Frenchman, but he was fired before the event due to a poor result at last year's Fifa Arab Cup.

Despite leading Burkina Faso to the semi-finals of the Nations Cup in Cameroon earlier this year, Velud has been stripped of his duties.

The West Africans were defeated by the hosts in the third-place play-off, after leading 3-0 with 20 minutes to go.

The football federation of Burkina Faso (FBF) stated it received 64 applications for Malo's replacement and examined six applicants.

During the interview process, the FBF indicated it was looking for "experience, competence, and charisma."

Between 2009 and 2010, Value was the manager of Togo, and he was the team coach when the squad was assaulted by a machine gun attack before the 2010 Nations Cup in Angola.

He has had a diverse career as a club manager in Africa, winning the Algerian championship with Entente Setif in 2013 and then USM Alger in 2014, as well as the league title and Caf Confederation Cup with TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2016.

Value began coaching in his native France and has only worked in Africa since 2011, except for a brief stint in Kuwait in 2018.

Burkina Faso's first competitive matches will be qualifiers for the 2023 Nations Cup in Ivory Coast, which will take place during the international window from May 30 to June 14.

The Stallions have been placed in Group B alongside Togo, Cape Verde, and Eswatini, his former charges.
