The erstwhile Brong Ahafo Regional Pharmacy Council has organized a day’s training workshop for Over-the-counter -medicine sellers and pharmaceutical store attenders within the Bono East Region on the necessary skills needed for them to discharge their role in the fight against Covid-19.

The workshop which was under the topics, “THE ROLE OF THE COUNTER MEDICINE SELLER IN THE MANAGEMENT OF COVID-19 AND THE NEW GHANA HEALTH SERVICE GUIDELINES FOR  UMBILICAL CORD CARE IN NEWBORNS” was organized at the Social Center of the St. Francis Catholic Church and was graced by the presence of the erstwhile Brong Ahafo Regional Pharmacy Council Manager, Mr. Kwasi Appiah Baffour, his deputy, Charles Yaw Acheampong executives’ of the Bono East Drug Stores Association and some members of the Bono East Drug  Stores Association.

Mr. Charles Yaw Acheampong said the main aim of the Pharmacy Council is to ensure that, the citizenry is served with only effective and affordable medicines that are easily accessible and also to make that the pharmaceutical and over-the-counter- medicine attendees abide by the medicines law and policies.

According to him, the workshop is an annual educational program the Pharmacy Council conducts in their respective districts to upgrade the skills of the chemical shop sellers with support from the central government and its partners in health care delivery. He opened that the topics they treat during such training workshops are determined by the government.

The Deputy Regional Manager urged all and sundry to abide by all the safety protocols put in place by the government in battling the covid-19 pandemic until each and every single individual gets fully vaccinated from the deadly virus.

He also advised postpartum mothers to desist from using orthodox medicines. H appealed to them to treat the umbilical cord with the new and improved Chlorhexidine 7.1% Digluconate gel. 

On behalf of the Bono East Regional Drug Stores Association, the Public Relation Officer, Dr. Richard Rie, thanked the Pharmacy Council for the workshop and urged members of the association to practice what they have been told. He further warned all unlicensed drug sellers to put an end to their activities since the laws of the country frown against such act.

He further called on the public to only buy medicines from licensed and accredited pharmaceutical shops or drug stores.
