Ben White is speculated to be the new defender in line to make a switch to Anfield as Liverpool seek to end their defensive crises following the loss of Virgil van Dijk to injury.

The Sun has reported that Brighton & Hove Albion would not demand less than £50m for the defender if the Reds come calling in January.

White has signed a new four-year deal with the Seagulls after impressing during his season loan at Elland Road with Leeds United.

The Reds kept a clean sheet in their 1-0 Champions League opening Group fixture against Ajax in Netherlands on Wednesday night. Liverpool would still need a natural centre back to replace Van Dijk regardless of Fabinho’s performance and Brighton are prepared not to stand in the way of White if the offer received Is substantial.

His presence will provide alternatives at the back for Jurgen Klopp, who cannot depend solely on Joel Matip, following injury obstruction to his playing days at Anfield.
