An educationist, George Adjei Hinneh has described it as not necessary the recommendation by the think tank ‘‘Africa Educational Watch’’ to break the monopoly of WAEC to reduce leakage of examination questions.

Speaking with Ark Midday News, George Adjei Hinneh said the solution to the problem should be well thought and not necessarily giving other councils to organize questions. According to him, WAEC has gained a lot of experience therefore their service is still needed.

A report on the 2020 West African Secondary Schools Certificate examination by the educational think tank, Africa Education Watch, recommended that government breaks the monopoly of WAEC following the massive exam leakage that occurred.

The report also called for an additional body to supervise the work of WAEC. Meanwhile, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, has kicked against calls for the government to break the monopoly of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, in Ghana.

He added that WAEC needs to be supported by technical people in terms of printing, distributing and setting of the question so that the issue of leakages will be a thing of the past.
