A 12-year-old boy, Christopher Andoful Junior popularly called Akwasi Sawkwa has drowned in River Wewe at Parkoso in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday, October 17, 2021, when the Class 6 pupil of Parkoso R/C Primary School, together with his colleagues went swimming in the river.

A friend of the boy who went swimming with, Solomon Hiatorpe told Soireenews that he and another colleague swum to the opposite side of the bank of the river and Christopher tried swimming to join them was cautioned to halt since he was not good at it.

Hiatorpe narrated that in the course of swimming and having reached the middle of the river, Christopher started sinking. They tried rescuing him but their effort was to no avail.

The father of the deceased, Christopher Andoful Senior, who narrated how the news broke to him said, the case has been reported to the police.

Meanwhile, a local rescue team is on the river searching for the body.
