The Bono Regional Islamic schools’ manager, Mr Osas Abdulmunin Abubakar Sampene is appealing for more Islamic teachers to be posted in the Islamic schools in order to strengthen Islamic education in the region.

He said governments have, over the years, overlooked the recruitment and clearance of Arabic teachers, adding to the unemployment situation in the country.

He noted that the situation was worrying, and urged the government to take steps to end it.

According to Mr Abubakar Sampene, the lack of adequate quality Arabic teachers in the various Islamic schools, particularly in the Bono Region, was contributing to the collapse of Islamic education and needs to be rekindled to inspire children in Arabic schools to learn and understand their religion.

He was of the view that Islamic schools are far left behind as compared to mission schools, in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff and other logistics, hence, the need for the government to give the needed attention to Islamic education.

He appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES), to, as a matter of urgency, intervene to help revive Islamic education by recruiting qualified and trained Arabic teachers into the various schools in the region, and the country as a whole.

He charged parents to pay attention to their wards by giving them the necessary support.
