Bono East: Headmaster laments high teenage pregnancy at Konkompe SHS

The Headmaster of Konkompe Senior High School in the Atebubu/Amantin Constituency of the Bono Region, Joseph Amponsah Sei has raised concerns over the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the school.

According to him, the degree of teenage pregnancy among students in the school is alarming.

He indicated that currently they are having two students who returned to school pregnant and it is having adverse impact on their education.

Addressing a PTA meeting held on Monday, June 28, 2021, Mr Sei called on parents to keep eyes on their ward to help curb the menace.

He is also calling for proper sex education among teens to enable them to stay safe and protected from teenage pregnancy should they engage in any sexual conduct.

Teenage pregnancy among Ghanaian children has over the years poses threat to the future of the young ones as victims end up dropping from school or committing suicide in special cases where their parents are tough.

The government and other stakeholders in girl child development have been working tirelessly to curb the menace but the situation keeps worsening. Currently, the Ashanti Region is with a high rate of teenage pregnancy in the country per the recent survey conducted.

Some stakeholders are however calling for the reintroduction of sex education at the Basic level as they believe is the best way to curb the menace.
