Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Region Top Illegal Migration- International Organisations for Migration (IOM).

The former Brong Ahafo Region top the illegal migration in the country.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has declared that the former Brong Ahafo Region tops the illegal migration in the country.

The Programme leader for International Organization for Migration, Mr. Collins Yeboah said, that illegal migration is very prevalent in the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions respectively even though the organization is doing its best in education.

Speaking at a program launch in Sunyani, Mr. Collins Yeboah added that, for the past years their research has shown that the majority of Ghanaians who travel through the desert and other illegal routes to migrate into other countries are mostly from these three regions in the country and hence the need to sensitize the youth on the effects on illegal migration instead to use the legal way to travel if the need arises.

At the program, some of the returnees from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions also got the opportunity to share their bitter experiences in the quest to seek the greener pastures through the illegal routes while others shared that it is such an awful moment to travel illegally to seek for greener pastures.

The returnees however took the opportunity to appeal to the government to provide more sustainable jobs for the youth in the country to make life better here in Ghana.

The District Chief Executive for Dormaa East District, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang also cautioned the youth to take advantage of available social interventions by the government and individuals in Ghana to make life, rather than traveling through the desert and the Mediterranean sea in the name of seeking for the greener pastures since most of the golden promises at heart about the countries they travel to are not real.

He concluded by advising Ghanaian youth to remain focused and believe in themselves to make it in Ghana than to travel illegally through the desert for a better life in foreign lands.
