Kingsley Schindler has received a last-minute call-up from Ghana coach Chris Hughton for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matchup against Angola.

Tariq Lamptey of Brighton & Hove Albion has been invited to be replaced by the 29-year-old defender who competes for Bundesliga team FC Koln.

Schindler was born in Hamburg, Germany, but despite having family ties to Ghana, he has never received a cap from that nation.

The right-back has been a constant for Koln this season, playing in 20 Bundesliga games and six UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures.

Schindler has reportedly already started practicing with the rest of the Black Stars team, according to a statement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The GFA announced that Kingsley Schindler had been called up to take Tariq Lamptey's position for this week's TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.

The German-born player, who has not yet received a cap for Ghana, landed in Accra on Monday to join the rest of the team in preparation for the two pivotal games scheduled for Kumasi and Luanda, respectively.

As of right now, 17 players are in camp in preparation for the two-game 2023 AFCON qualifier against Angola.

Inaki Williams, Ransford Yeboah, Joseph Wollacott, Alexander Djiku, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Patrick Kpozo, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Andre Ayew, Joseph Painstil, Mohammed Salisu, Majeed Ashimeru, and Edmund Addo are among them.

In an effort to secure a spot in the tournament for the next year, Ghana will host Angola on March 23 in Kumasi before taking on the Black Antelopes four days later in Luanda.
