Bird Flu Alert: Kpone-Katamanso culled 13,000 birds

Due to an epidemic of bird flu, health officials slaughtered roughly 13,000 birds on Stardom Farms in Bethlehem, a town in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Kwao Pecku, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Veterinary Officer, who confirmed the occurrence to the Ghana News Agency, the owners of the farm reported a case of probable bird flu epidemic to the office.

According to Dr. Pecku, veterinary officers were dispatched to Stardom Farms based on the information.

To determine whether it was avian influenza, an antigen test was performed.

He claimed veterinary officers were working around the clock to contain the crisis, and that the poultry sector was at risk of a serious setback.

To safeguard their animals from the outbreak, Dr. Pecku recommended poultry owners follow strict sanitary procedures.

He urged the government to take action, through the Agricultural Ministry, to stop the spread of avian influenza in the country.
