The BET awards took place without any representatives from Ghana.

The show, which went virtual last year due to the pandemic returned to the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles where a live audience was in attendance for the first time since the pandemic started.

Nigeria's Burna Boy continued his hot streak scooped home the Best International Act of the year.

He beat out stiff competition from Aya Nakamura (France), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Emicida (Brazil), Headie One (UK), Wizkid (Nigeria), Young T & Bugsey (UK), and Youssoupha (France).

He became the first artiste to win the award on three consecutive occasions.

The ceremony, which took place on June 27, 2021, was centered around the “Year of the Black Woman” theme, which is meant to celebrate and acknowledge the “drivers of change throughout history” who get overlooked far too often.

“Black women have been essential drivers of change throughout history, from the political sphere to the cultural zeitgeist,” Connie Orlando, BET executive vice president of music programming & strategy, said in a statement.

“We are looking forward to spotlighting and celebrating Black women during this year’s show, recognizing them for everything they’ve accomplished and applauding them for what’s to come.”
