DSP Andrew Kofi Okonegye of the Berekum West Divisional Police Command has confirmed the issue has been reported to his outfit pending investigation.

Despite the ban placed on illegal mining (Galamsey) by the government, the chief of Jinijini, Nana Tutu Baffour Asare II in the District Capital of Berekum West in the Bono Region of Ghana has given out concession to some illegal miners to operate on the Suntreso River.

This was revealed in an investigation conducted by a media house within the district after suspicion of the act.

Upon further interrogation by Soiree News Bono Regional Correspondent, Nana Ama Asiedu with Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Kwame Oppong Samuel, he confirmed the act.

 According to him, he also received some tip-off and followed to the Suntreso River to observed the authenticity of the allegation but realised that the claims were true which took him to the District police station to lodge an official complain.

 He said, he further proceed to the Bureau of National Investigation(BNI) office in the District for investigations to be conducted into the matter.

 Mr Oppong told Soiree News that, the BNI together with himself visited the scene and retrieved some fake documents from the galamseyers indicating that the concession has been sold to them by the Chief of Jinijini.

 Soiree News engagement with the Berekum West District Chief Executive, Hon Isaac Osei reviewed that the Assembly has also received some complaint and set to investigate into the matter.

Meanwhile speaking to the Berekum West Divisional Police Commander, DSP Andrew Kofi Okonegye he confirmed the issue has been reported to his outfit pending investigation
