Bantamahene addresses issues affecting the Ashanti Region and possible solutions at the Town Hall Meeting and Results Fair

The Bantamahene, Nana Baffour Owusu Amankwatia IV has made known that one issue troubling the people in the Ashanti Region is the deplorable state of roads.

He addressed that although several sod-cutting ceremonies have been initiated in the Region which some have already started with others still pending yet the rate at which civilians need the roads completed is high to facilitate movement and promote business in such an industrious section of Ghana.

“For those who have started, most are at the rate of a tortoise pace,” he spoke.

“We are very grateful but the truth is that we need the roads badly to facilitate easy and comfortable movement and promote business.

The Bantamahene spoke on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Townhall Meeting and Results Fair held in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi

The issue of the Senior High School students who will be graduating in a few months from school was also enquired on the necessary steps government has taken to ensure that they gain admission in the various tertiary institutions with the hope of resolving any challenges.

“We are also concerned about the SHS graduate who will be passing unto the university next academic year. What are preparations made for them at the universities and other institutes? I’m hopeful that these issues of concern and many more that are bothering us as a nation will be addressed so that together we will build our nation for generations yet to come," he said.

Nana Amankwatia IV commended the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his flagship programmes, which has transformed the nature of Ghanaians and have greatly impacted the life of many. He particularly mentioned the free Senior High School as an achievement, which merits praise through the inventiveness of the government to nurture the future leaders of Ghana into well-informed and expertise ones.

He made known that the Townhall Meeting and Fair Results was necessary to inform Ghanaians on the statistics of the Nana Addo Dankwa’s government and with the evidence witnessed, he surely deems it a great privilege for non-believers to reconcile and help the government accomplish the results for the welfare of the Nation.

“…these results are refuted by a section of Ghanaians and it is for this reason that today marks a very important day in our history as we witness evidence based documentation of implemented policies, programmes and interventions under the NPP government.

“Beyond today and the pictorial evidence of government’s achievement as exhibited in the stats, I am hopeful that doubtful hearts will be put to bed in relation to what has been done,” he added.

Security issues were also directed towards the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to help the Region fight the amount of wrongdoings. Nana Amankwatia IV questioned the functions of the Police force in the Region and narrated a few instances that have not been rightly handled by the Police, which as a result has created fear and panic among inhabitants.

“Your Excellency, we in Kumasi have had problems that are associated with environment and security and I am taking this opportunity to bring it to your attention for proper action to be taken. We are all witnesses to the fact that for three months now, some matters have been going on in Kumasi mysteriously and as far as we are concerned, the police who are responsible for our security have not talked about it.

"We know that in the western democracy, what usually happens is that, when these things happen, the Police would come out to solicit about it. At least they make the citizens feel that something is been done about it,” he revealed.

He quizzed the Police Service for failure to bolster the security matters in Kumasi and suggested that blackness in the Garden City at night is playing a role and contributing to murder cases therefore, steps should be taken to resolve it immediately to strengthen safety.

“Since last year October when these mysterious murders started, we haven’t heard anything so we have assumed that they (the Police in the Region) are not doing anything about it. So whiles the vice president is here, we want to bring it to his attention that some mysterious murders have been occurring in Kumasi," he added.

He called on the Vice President to help resolve environmental issues to make the land a healthier and improved place for its inhabitants and citizens.
