Azonto genre will go toe to toe with Afrobeats if its revival is done right according to Radio presenter, Andy Dosty.

The presenter noted that the genre is easy to relate with and would be more patronized than the trending technical Afrobeats genre.

The disc Jockey (DJ) and the host of Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM made his statement after Sarkodie decided to rally Ghanaian artistes to bring Azonto back following his release of Azonto genre song, ‘Fa Hooki Me’ featuring Tulenkey. The song became an instant favorite on the social media scene, and recognising the impact of the song, Sarkodie stated that he would be willing to jump on another Azonto themed track as soon as possible.

According to Andy Dosty, “it will be the biggest competitor to afrobeat”.

He stated that he would be overjoyed if Ghanaian musicians unite and continue to “drum azonto to the ears of Africa again.”

Azonto is a music and dance genre from Ghana. The dance originated from a traditional dance called Kpanlogo. The dance later got into the minds of most Ghanaians in the year 2013 and most Ghanaian music videos were full of Azonto dance and later spread to most African countries and other parts of the world.

Azonto can be traced as far back as one of R2Bees songs “Azonto” but was rejuvenated by Guru’s “Lapaz Toyota” and later the producer, Nshonna Musick, with the song “You Go Kill Me” which had Sarkodie and EL on it.
